Due to the dark lighting we can tell that this is a horror movie. At the top of the poster it says "TRUE STORY" which taps into the audiences fear which may add in the hook of them wanting to watch the movie. Another thing that taps into the audiences' fear the fact that they use religion in this, normally in horror movies there some involvement in religion which therefore makes this even more scarier. The use of grey lighting and dull/ dark lighting makes it a hook, there is a contrast with a light tone which attracts the audiences' eyes. At the bottom it says "FROM THE DIRECTOR OF THE CONJURING AND INSIDIOUS" this could be a promise of pleasure, pleasure of getting scared. Since those two movies are well known to be scary, so the fact that it has come from those directors it could suggest that they will be promised to be scared. The main image is the hand with the cross with it, there is other image which is the a little girl, normally little girls frighten the audiences', as they might of seen 'The ring' or the previous 'Conjuring'. The fact that they have made a squeal means that they must of been it had good reviews. The poster also shows some horror, in the right hand corner of the poster you can see that there is a scary figure lurking which interest people into watching this movie, this also gives the jist of what is going to happen in the movie.

The two main actors we are introduced are Ed and Lorraine, if you have watched a lot of horror movies then you would know them very well, if not, they are well known for exorcism of ghosts. They are listening to a tape from what a priest gave them, and normally we associate priest to be the one to help, resulting to religion, normally when you are scared you go back to religion. On the tape we hear a deep scary voice, the producers of this trailer is getting the audience ready for the upcoming horror in the trailer and movie. Then the priest says that the" voice is coming from a 11 year old girl". This makes the audience frighten at this fact, as we think she may be possessed. The fact that it is a mid- shot of them in the house could suggest how it is maybe a normal thing for them. We are then shown where this is going to take place, London, compared to the previous scene where they were in the house where it was bright and sunny it then changes to a dull grey tone when they show the audience London. From then on there is a dark humming sound in the background whiles the actor is speaking this adds in the fear for the audience. The audience is shown the 4 children lining up, children are known to be a symbol for sad emotion, we feel sorry for them because they are children, especially since we know something bad is going to happen to them. We get a close up of the little girl screaming in the dark with only one source of light, the scream scares the audience, it was quick and we the agonizing pain in the girl's face. The close up of the tv screen, it breaks up in between which adds in the fear for the audience as we don't know is something is going to pop up, it is almost like teasing the audience. It blacks out everything and has the text in grey tone, it gives the audience a fact about the movie, as they say "documented" this could suggest that this could be a real story, this can link back to the poster above where it says "true story" which is there to frighten us.There is then a mid shot of the girl surrounded by cross, the daunting music creeps up as the cross turns upside down. An upside down cross is not a good sign, it is the sign of the devil, this therefore causes the audiences' fear rise up. As the trailer goes by, there is sudden silent, the audience is suddenly expecting something to pop up as there is a downward view of the little girl looking up at the pitch black space. Due to the fact that the camera angle is at an angle of the little girl it makes the audience feel like we are in the position of the little girl where we feel the fear of the little girl. As the scary person jumps out the pitch black corner we jump due to the sudden rise of the music and of the little girl screaming. We have a zoom in the lady's face as it rains, the rain normally symbolizes unfortunate, this could symbolize the unfortunate events in the future.
