History of Vogue

Newspaper

Mirror

Technical Codes:

The main image is the statue of Liberty with her hand over her face. This gesture code from Barthes' theory could indicate that Trump is bad and has made the symbol for peace and freedom cover her face. Furthermore indicating how peace and freedom is being put under threat. This could also link to Levi's theory as the binary opposite is that Trump is the symbol of destruction whereas the Statue of Liberty is the symbol of peace and freedom. The headline is "IT'S PRESIDENT TRUMP..." the ellipsis could connote how there is something more, which creates suspense. Then the image shown show how the President Trump has effected the people and the world. The colour of the sky is black which connote how he has made the world go bad. The rhetorical question "What have they done?"  could reflect on the statue's gesture. And the line underneath "How Trump triumphed....and what it means for you and the world" this direct address make the audience feel more involved in this subject matter as well as the fact that the hyperbole "and the world" including the world could furthermore evoke how Trump has destroyed the world.  The threshold of this is the fact that the new president is Trump and this could cause destruction to the world, hence this is very important mostly for the people in America however this is a very big news as this is something that everyone is upset about.

The Times

Context

  • First published in 1785
  • The Times published by Times Newspapers since 1981
  • A subsidiary of News UK- owned by Rupert Murdoch

Technical Codes:

Unlike the previous magazine which is against Trump, this is for Trump. "The New World" could contrast with Mirror's magazine cover as they say that it is the end of the world. Placing this text on Donald Trump connotes how he is the new world. By giving a quote from Trump "You will be so proud of your president you will be so proud" the fact that they have put last repeated line in yellow brings emphasis on the "you will be so proud". The direct address makes the audience feel more connected with the magazine as they feel like they are talking to the audience. Almost like you need to accept this. There are bold colours used to bring in the viewer. This image goes across the front and back page. The victory is furthermore shown in the backdrop of the American flag. An other way that victory is shown is the gesture of both the Vice President and Trump with the clap and fist. Having Trump in the foreground and the Vice president in the background could evoke the Donald Trump is more important. Barthes semiotics, conveys the American iconography as there is a back drop of the American flag in the background creating a cultural significance for the viewer enabling them to make an choice of their own on how to think of this. Within Levi- Struass theory could evoke that the headline "The new world" creates questions to the audience about Trump being a president. This is furthermore shown with the subheading "Donald Trump sends shockwaves around the globe". The gesture of Donald Trump clutching his fist in victory could reflect how he is determined.

Tabloid- Bigger spaces between each columns. More pictures
Broadsheet- More writing. Very serious.

Ownership :
The person who owns both The Sun and The Times is Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. He was part of the Fox. Curran and Seaton suggested that companies are driven by power and money. By having a conglomerate  company having subsidiary company gaining power and money. By having this, it means that media ownership structures are changing because the opening companies will have no chance of surviving as most of the subsidiary are owned by a conglomerate.

Statement And Aims

Statement And Aims

For my media production, I have chosen Brief 2, which includes making a cross media production for a new artist or band in a genre (genre/hybrid), for an independent record label, I have chosen Independiente. I have chosen this independent record label as they do various genres, this links to how Music Marketing is looking for the target audience to be 16-35 year olds. The music that I will be doing a music video for is Warm Foothills from Alt J. This band has a range of genres, this includes: experimental rock, indie electronic, folktronica, indie rock, indie pop and art rock. The music is a very calm and relaxing music which contrasts the stereotypical view of a rock music.  In my opinion, I believe that this music has the theme of nostalgic, which I would like to incorporate into my music video when editing. My narrative of my music video is going to be based on story of a tedding bear, the teddy bear is blue which indicates the calmness of this music video as well as the music. Because some music doesn’t include the artists in their music video this could raise curiosity towards the audience as who is singing this, hence pushing them into researching the band’s name and who they are. The teddy bear is going on a journey which evokes the feeling of how the band has had a journey to come to where they are now, also the journey towards the future. In the music video, I will have a range of camera shots including close shots and long shots. In the video, I will have video of nature to connote the calmness imagery.

In my magazine, I will be including the band’s face as a group and then individual writing of information about themselves. Along with the background of the artists, how they got together. I will be promoting the music video by including some snap shots of the music video as a little sneak peek. In the magazine, I will also be including the meaning behind the music video why I have done it like this. The front cover of the magazine will have the poster of the music album there along with other aspects of the magazine, like price and page numbers, I will also include a plug of a voucher to intrigue the viewer to look at the magazine. Also on the front cover I will include “see pages” to intrigue the viewer, to go to see their information and listen to their upcoming songs. In the magazine, I will insert a section where there is information on where you can buy the album and how much it will cost. There will also be a section where there will be information of what they will be doing in the future, their future journey that they would like to do.  And social media aspects where people could follow on Instagram and other social media platform, for marketing purposes.

Luther

Episode 1 - Season 1

The first 15 minutes of Luther. It starts off with a long shot of a dark mysterious building. With a dark glomming noise in the background, giving off a suspenseful atmosphere. The background music then speeds up as the action takes place, when the audience gets the feeling that this person is getting chased. With the dark lighting and fast paced music it brings into the genre of action. The audience is then introduced to the mysterious person who we do not see the face of, this therefore makes the audience feel intrigued due to the fact that they would want to find out who is chasing this person. There is quick transitions between each frames, connoting the quick pace. The quick pace could also connote how the characters are under pressure, making the audience feel the pressure hence making them feel on edge. The audience gets a close up of the person who is running away, as he gets trapped and is unable to escape from the mysterious figure chasing him. This close up shows the audience the fear on his face and the desperation of trying to get away. The first thing the audience sees the identity of the mysterious person, is the eyes. The close up of the eyes shows the intensity, that is given off. The fact that the main character is a black male, breaks the stereotypical crimes. There is then a shot where the two people are confronted.

Music Videos

Young the Giant: Cough Syrup

In my opinion I think this is more of a rock genre. The music starts off with an underwater scene, where a person is playing the guitar, the audience gets the perspective of being under the water. Throughout the music video we see the band at an indoor swimming pool, having being surrounded to water, could link to the title as 'syrup', watery. The director, firstly introduces the audience to everything, the tank full of water, the stereos filled with glitter. Everything that is introduced the audience at first is not destroyed, or empty. It then slowly as the music goes on everything that we were introduced onto gets destroyed. It consistently goes back to the performance, of the band which furthermore adds into the genre of rock due to the fact that mostly they would have their band perform, hence showing off the rock genre. At time there are times where the lyrics would match what is shown on the screen, for example when he sings "coming up out of the blue" and then the people in the swimming pool comes out of the water. However, I feel like the music video does not have any connection to the song it self, but this is what makes it a very good due to the fact that it is very out of the ordinary.

RADIO INDUSTRY : BBC

Commercial Broadcaster :

Commercial broadcaster are programs that are owned by private company. And they air advertisements for profits on the radio.

Public Service :

This is includes the public's interest rather than commercial benefits.

The difference between commercial broadcaster and public service broadcaster is that this Commercial broadcaster is owned by private companies and they gain benefits from the airing adverts to make profits on the radio where as public service is based on the public interest rather than commercial benefits,

Context of BBC

BBC also known as, British Broadcasting Corporation, was founded in 1922. BBC is a public service broadcaster, who are funded by British citizens not by the government. Film marketing poster

JOHN WICK

The poster is very dull, with low lighting but with the spot light on the main character. Indicating the genre of the poster which is action. This poster differs to other film posters as this doesn't have the directors name on it just the actor's name written at the top hence, making him the main focus of the poster. The colour theme to this poster is black and white, however the red "chapter 2" shows the importance towards this. The actor is placed in the middle of the poster and he is looking straight at the audience making the viewer feel more involved in this image. This furthermore indicates that he is the main focus. There are a lot of guns pointing at the main actor, this could give to the other audience who doesn't know of what this movie is about a gist of what the movie is about. And the fact that he is isolated and doesn't have anyone around him could connote that this movie is not the same as the others as there would always be a sidekick but he doesn't have one. The low lighting could moreover denote that this is a film noir, as John Wick is a very violent along with their action genre.

In comparison to the first poster this one has more information of the movie as this is the first poster for the first film. The line "don't set him off" could reflect something off the movie and the person holding the gun towards the viewer. This makes the audience feels intimidated by him as he has a straight face and serious and tense atmosphere, it also seems like he is holding the gun to the viewer.  The shallow depth of field in this image makes the main focus of this image the gun whereas in the other poster there are no depth of field and there are other props to make the attention to go to the main actor. The gun is used as the 'o' for the title, making the image link with the poster showing the connection between the two subjects. Compared to the other poster John Wick is holding the gun in the poster for the first movie indicating that he has the power and control. However, in the other poster there he is not holding a gun, this could connote how he has maybe lost the control as all of the guns are now pointing at him instead of him pointing the gun at the viewer.

Tide Print Product

Analyse how the technical codes are used to persuade the specific audience at this specific time to buy the product.

This advertisement is aimed at woman in the 1950s, due to the fact that woman in the 1950s were stereotypically described to be housewives this could also be seen as domestic labour. Especially after in WWII the employability rate for women but they would still need to juggle the domestic labour which is not fair to them. However, there is a consumer boom which did lift up the spirt of the women because technology came into light and helped them for example the ESGE mixer and masher and the Miele 155/1 washing machine with mangle. This has aided them a lot as they do not have to spend 4 hours washing clothes by hand they could just put in washing machine making them save time. This is aimed at housewives in America this is demonstrated when they say "No wonder more Tide goes into American homes than any other washday product!" situated in the first bullet point. As America was the first country that was financially stable when the war ended which meant that they could spend a lot of money unlike England who was rationing food and supplies. This could refer back to the 'American dream' which is starting small and then getting big, this is setting the aspirational tone. Britain is in love with the American culture so this could be selling to woman in Britain as well. The layout of this advert is very bright and warm indicating that this is a very positive advertisement. This is also presented by the woman's facial expression which is connoting that she is very happy with the product. As the woman is looking up to the washing detergent this could be suggesting that this is an aspirational aspect that all woman should get this. This could refer back to Barthes for the gesture code, also the woman hugging the product could link back to Barthes theory. This woman could the representation of woman, she is a made up character this could be echoing Hollywood stars. The woman is wearing a headscarf symbol of housewives. This is a hard sell. There is direct address making the audience feel more involved in the advertisement, hence making more personal.  There is a graphic at women at the bottom using tide and telling us what they think of this. And their response is good influencing woman to use this, as other people has used this and it was good. The line at the bottom "TIDE gets clothes cleaner than any other washday product you can buy" by comparing to other washing products this could indicate to the audience that it is much better and it is a revolution just like the technologies that has helped them. The red against the white background makes the writing stand out more making the advertisement more noticeable to the audience. In this advert poster there is not men present in this which furthermore connotes that the audience for this is women.

Bell Hooks- White women fit more into the western ideology. This advert backs this up due to the fact that it only shows white woman in this advert no other races, this furthermore connotes that there

Planning

Brief: Television

  • Filming location- My filming location would be in the school theatre. I need to ask the person in charge if I could use it. I need to find a timing that everyone is free including the audience, I think I would either do this at after school or lunch time. As for my second location I would like to film the interviews outside or in home. I need make sure that the people who are volunteering to be in this media project are willing to do all of the things that are required to do as there is some things that may be embarrassing.  Health and safety issues, will include the trophy that would be on something bright and gold to make it appealing.
  • Story Board- --> Host= Rhys--> Contestent= Quako

Audience List
  1. Sophie
  2. Mateena
  3. Lydia
Memes
Elf on the shelf
Vines - describe the meme or make impression
got my berries
asdv movies

  • Construction Of Narrative-  The disruption the game show would be the each round each player gets eliminated. This would therefore makes conflict between each player as they are trying to win the £500. The resolution of this game is that someone will win at the end of the show. I have chosen to do this as there might not be anyone who would do something like this also it will be funny and fun to create.
  • Camera Shot List- Middle shot for the interviews. There would be a variety of shots when filming the game show. I would have long shot with as this is the optimum shot for having all of the players in there. However when the players are doing their rounds I would have middle shot as well as close up shot on the players to show their emotion/ determination to win the £500.
  • List Of Sounds- The diegetic sounds I would  be using are when the audience would be clapping, shouting and oohing, and when the players are speaking. The non-diegetic sounds would be the theme tune which I would have to make to override some parts of the show, to make it more like a game show. I would also have sound effects to make it more of a game show.
  • Editing- I would have quick transitions between scenes to convey the comedy aspect of the show.

Life on Mars

EPISODE 1

The first episode of 'Life on Mars', starts of with the mixture of the episode and the credit. Cutting off into the credits creates tension, as well as the fact that music builds up the tension, as it is fast paced.  The low shot angle at the wheel, makes the audience understand the urgency of this, what seems to be a car chase. The camera looks like it is being hand held so this makes the audience feel like they are in the chase with the detective. Hence, setting the crime motif of the tv show. The enigmas of the tv show is how did he go back in time and will he come back to the present day. There is close up shot for the evidence. He is dressed in 70s clothings, old cars suggesting that he has gone back in the day. There was a scene where the camera is scanning across the office, giving the audience a sense of the setting of where the main character is. Showing the difference in the modern investigation and the olden day investigation, it is when there is no evidence bad and the policemen was smoking inside the building. However, through sound it shows that the present is still here as we still here the beep from the monitor in the hospital. Connoting that he is still alive but he is probably in a coma, making all of this unreal, dream. There was a scene showing the main character against the olden days people, this could be suggesting that the men is against the main character. There was some unrestricted things as there is not much things that the audience knows, for example will he solve the case? will he wake up from coma?

Statment and Aims

Statement And Aims

For my media production, I have chosen to do Brief 1 which includes making a cross- media production for a mainstream commercial broadcaster. Targeting an audience of 18-35-year-old 'millennials'. I have decided to do a game show, which would be the genre of comedy. This game is different to other game shows as they do not relate to the audience of the ages 18- 35, this may also be a family friendly show as well. The plot of this game show is completing social media challenges under time limit. There will not be a judge, the audience is to determine who the winner is. This would-be ITV commercial broadcaster, I have chosen ITV due to the fact that they are mostly known for broadcasting game shows. The location of the game show will be taking place in the college's performing arts theatre. I would have an audience sitting in the seats. There would be four contestants taking part of the game. With each challenge that the contestants will go through, one contestant will be eliminated if they do not complete the task in the time limit. The aim of the game is to win the £500 which will be placed in a briefcase. The conflict will be amongst the contestants fighting to win the £500. To include another filming location, I will be taking interviews for each contestant introducing themselves to the audience and telling them why they want to win the show. This location will either be home based or based outside. The challenges will include the following: text fast, best impressions of memes that are relevant to the age group, dance off (there will be a random music and then they have to dance to it), as well as trying not to laugh challenge. There might be more challenges. To determinate the winner of each round we will have the audience to scream or clap, the contestant that receives the most wins the round. The show will have a host that will direct everything. The brief case will be on something that would make it sparkly and nice, as there is something desirable in there. I will be using the projection board to have the background of everything, however I will have to make some props for the background decorations and for the contestants to use. For the magazine, I will be making this very colourful and bright, as this is a comedy show. In the magazine, I will include snapshots of the first episode, also include the day and time that this will air on ITV. In the magazine, I will say the plot of the game, and using some persuasive language to intrigue the viewer into watching the show. The front cover of the magazine will have the poster of the show there along with other aspects of the magazine, like price and page numbers, I will also include a plug of a voucher to intrigue the viewer to look at the magazine.
